Description

The Physical Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is accepting applications for an Instructional Professor (IP) (rank commensurate with experience) to be part of the Phoenix STEM Program team. Phoenix STEM is a new program whose goal is to promote the success of historically under-represented and first-generation students in STEM majors at the University of Chicago. The Physics Phoenix STEM IP will teach collaborative learning workshops to help students succeed in our introductory physics courses and support other pedagogical initiatives in the department. The Physics Phoenix STEM IP will also work with the Phoenix STEM team to develop resources for Phoenix STEM students and serve as an academic advisor for these students. This position reports to the Phoenix STEM Program Director and to the Department of Physics Senior Instructional Professor. Expected start date is between January 1, 2023 and July 1, 2023. This is a career-track position with potential progression, competitive salary, and benefits, with time allocated for professional development. 

 

Qualifications

 

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field and at least 2 years of teaching experience.  Candidates with knowledge and experience in physics education research as well as in diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM are particularly encouraged to apply.
