Position Details

The Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa (UT) invites applications for a Physics Instructional Staff position. This full-time, 12-month position starting in August 2023 reports to the Dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences, will be directed by the Department Chair and Associate Chair, and is annually renewable upon performance.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach 16-20 contact hours total over the academic year, corresponding to 8-10 labs, and possibly some summer courses, as part of the Physics program within the Department.  Primary instructional responsibilities will be teaching General Physics labs, both algebra and calculus based.

Staff responsibilities include and may not be limited to the following:

1. Ordering and budgetary tracking of laboratory supplies and maintaining an inventory for physics courses.  The successful candidate will coordinate and facilitate equipment and supply purchasing for department courses including:

·       determination of item availability and pricing

·       coordination and tracking of shipping for all ordered items

·       verification of order accuracy and end-user satisfaction prior to processing payment of invoices

·       tracking of departmental expenditures and coordination with department’s staff assistant, chair, and associate chair to maintain departmental budget records

2. Setting up weekly lab equipment.

3. Maintaining lecture demonstration equipment.

4. Assisting with and maintaining the Department’s 8-inch telescopes and observing equipment.

5. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

The successful candidate will have:

1. A Masters’ degree or above in physics or related field.

2. Prior teaching experience (preferred).

3. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work smoothly with a diverse group of faculty and students.

4. Proficiency in handling laboratory equipment.

5. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

6. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
