Position Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women’s Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy, OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.
Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.
Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.
Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties.
Position Summary
The Clinical Medicine Physician is a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy licensed to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina. Duties and responsibilities are primarily focused on the provision of primary care to eligible patients at Campus Health Services in an ethical and informed manner. The Clinical Medicine physician is expected to participate in the administrative governance of Campus Health Services and is expected to participate in the organizational performance improvement program to improve the quality and safety of care provided. Teaching activity with both staff and health care professionals-in-training is expected. Consultation with members of the University Community and participation on health-related internal and external committees is also expected. The Clinical Medicine physician plays an important role in health education especially through individual contacts with student clientele. This position is administratively responsible to the Director of medical Services and through them to the Executive Director for Campus Health Services.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Licensure by the North Carolina Medical Board Certification in an appropriate specialty is expected. Physicians who have just completed a residency will be given adequate time to convert their status from board eligible to board certified.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Two to three years of Practice experience preferred. Current knowledge in depth of his/her medical field and its standards of practice; have a commitment to the practice of quality medicine including a commitment to human value in that practice; have a special interest in the university setting and the processes of maturation which occur during an undergraduate or graduate college years; and have an ability to work collaboratively with provider, professional, and support staff to provide an integrated health and wellness experience for the student, preferred.
