Summary
The Staff Physician is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and well being as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. The Staff Physician resides within the Tulane Student Health Center. The individual serving in this role is responsible for: providing clinical services, and referral to specialty care. The Staff Physician is a part of the medical team that provide health care services to the student population at Tulane University. This position will provide medical assessments and exams, health education/literacy, referrals, and health screenings in a variety of clinical settings. The Health Center for Student Care operates clinical services to students through primary care and our sexual and reproductive health clinics. The physician will also provide outpatient procedures such as suture/staple placement and removal, I&D, cryotherapy, fluorescence eye staining, removal of foreign body, and other procedures as certified. This individual will be a part of the Student Health Center provider group and attend regular meetings, participate in peer review projects, grand rounds, and be involved with community engagement activities. As a staff physician within the clinical setting, this person will demonstrate qualities of effective leadership, communication, and professionalism. This is a full-time, 12-month position with some weekend and evening hours required.Located in the unique and iconic city of New Orleans, Tulane is a highly regarded and selective independent research university, a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), and offers undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees in the liberal arts, science and engineering, architecture, business, law, social work, medicine, and public health. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  •  Demonstrated knowledge using electronic health records and computerized medical programs. Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records..
  • Clinical competence in providing out-patient procedures including but not limited to: Incision & drainage, removal of foreign bodies, laceration care, wound care, fluorescein eye exams, and liquid nitrogen treatment for select dermatologic conditions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of counseling experience with patients on medical and/or psychological problems, preventive care. Refers patients for medical and/or other treatment when appropriate or indicated.
  • Ability to consult with outside clinical providers and public health agencies in securing treatments for patients requiring services beyond those available at the Tulane Student Health Centers.
  • Demonstrated ability in all care, ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  •  Demonstrated ability to maintain professional affiliations, licenses, certifications, etc.
  • Skills in providing exemplary patient care and customer service including maintaining confidentiality and being reliably available to patients when they seek care or advice.

Required Education and/or Experience
  • MD/DO degree with current, or in progress, state license to practice in Louisiana
  •  Successfully completed a residency program in IM/Peds/EM/FM or combined program.
  •  Board certified or Board eligible in the specialty of training.

Preferred Qualifications
  •  1-year college health experience
  •  1-year experience in a clinical out-patient setting.
  • Experience supervising health profession students and trainees.
  • Maintain current clinical knowledge on health-related topics.

This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade null.
