About the Department
A subspecialty within OB/GYN, the Section of Gynecologic Oncology is comprised of 10 attending physicians, 4 physician assistants, 6 chemotherapy nurses , 3 clinical fellows, and support staff including research support staff. The section provides care in outpatient clinics located in Hyde Park, River East, Orland Park, New Lenox, Arlington Heights, and Schererville, Indiana with planned growth to a new ambulatory site in Crown Point , IN and Hinsdale.
This position will be at our Hyde Park Campus with travel to Southwest suburbs.
Job Summary
Responsibilities
Independently sees patients in Hyde Park and offsite clinics, administers, orders, and interprets diagnostic tests, such as ultrasounds, CT scans, and laboratory tests.
Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.
Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
Makes tentative diagnoses and decisions about the management and treatment of patients.
Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and results of physical examination.
Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management.
Prescribes therapy or medication, typically with physician approval.
Provides physicians with assistance during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
Supervises and coordinate activities of technicians and technical assistants.
Visits and observes patients on hospital rounds or house calls, updating charts, ordering therapy, and reporting back to physician.
May order medical and laboratory supplies and equipment.
Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.
Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.
Performs other related work as needed.

Education:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
Experience:
Two years’ experience preferred in OB/GYN, surgical specialty, or primary care.
Licenses and Certifications:
Current Physician Assistant (PA) license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
