THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION (20 HOURS PER WEEK) LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN

 

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   The part-time Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner (PA/NP) provides therapeutic interventions to patients in order to aid in the management of mental health issues. This position will practice under indirect supervision by the attending physicians of the psychiatric program as allowed by the Nurse Practice Act/Physician Assistants Practice Act.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides counseling services to patients, including diagnosing and treating mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety disorders.
  • Discusses treatment options with patients to assist patients in making informed decisions about care.
  • Administers medication to patients who have been prescribed medication for their condition by a psychiatrist.
  • Prescribes medications to patients who need long-term treatment for mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
  • Participates in group therapy sessions with patients who have similar issues if program is in place.
  • Performs routine diagnostic tests to identify possible causes of mental illnesses.
  • Refers patients to another physician specialist when appropriate. Works with resident physicians during clinic.
  • Assists with resident education.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.

    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

    EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in the field of psychiatry.

     

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current and valid Tennessee license from the State Board of Nursing for Advanced Nursing Practice or Physician Assistant. Meet all state requirements and obtain valid Prescriptive Authority including a DEA certificate; Officially accredited to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) by AANP or ANCC. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

    • Strong understanding of the human body and its functions.
    • Knowledge in identifying and treating various mental health conditions.
    • Understanding of how medications work in the body and how to prescribe medications correctly.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
    • Knowledge of some EMR.

     

    WORK SCHEDULE: This position occasionally works evenings.
