Position Description

  Physical Therapy Clinical Education Faculty– Department of Physical Therapy

1. Brief statement of duties and responsibilities:

The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, which is ranked number 1 in the US News and World Report, is currently recruiting a faculty member with a strong background in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) clinical education. As a core faculty member, the incumbent will be committed to excellence in the administration and teaching of clinical education in the DPT program, scholarship, and service. The full-time 12-month position will be in the appointment stream at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. 

The Department is housed in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), one of the six Schools of Health Sciences. We offer an entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, and post-professional programs leading to a Master of Science in Physical Therapy, PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, and dual DPT-PhD in Bioengineering degrees as well as post-graduate certificates. The DPT degree is delivered in residential and hybrid options.

Responsibilities for Physical Therapy Clinical Education Faculty position include:

· Working collaboratively with the Vice Chair for Clinical Education, Directors of Clinical Education of the DPT program, and the clinical education administrator.

· Overseeing the administration, implementation, and evaluation of the clinical education program for the DPT program, which includes:

o   Assessing potential clinical sites;

o   Training clinical instructors;

o   Overseeing and advising students on the placement process;

o   Overseeing and evaluating students and clinical instructors during clinical education experiences;

o   Establishing and overseeing the implementation of student remediation plans as necessary to ensure successful completion of the clinical education experience;

o   Providing ongoing evaluation of the educational outcomes of the clinical education experiences for the hybrid and residential options of the DPT program.

·      Teaching within the DPT curriculum for both the residential and hybrid formats as designated by the Department Leadership;

·         Participating in DPT student advisement;

·         Engaging in scholarship related to area of interest and expertise;

·         Service on committees relevant to the teaching, research and service missions of the Department, School, and University.

  2. Minimum objective qualifications; Other desired qualifications:

Requirements for the position 

            ·         Earned professional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from a CAPTE accredited program;

            ·         Licensed as physical therapist or eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania;

·         Experience in implementing clinical education in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program;  

Preferred qualifications for the position

·         Experience in teaching in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program;

·         ABPTS certification as a Clinical Specialist;

3. Rank and/or title; salary range or minimum:  

Appointment at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The academic rank and salary are competitive and will be commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

  4. Tenure/tenure-stream/appointment stream; full/part-time:

  This is an appointment stream, full-time position.

March 1, 2024.
