University Health Service (UHS) is part of the Division of Student Life at the University of Michigan. The UHS Physical Therapy clinic provides physical therapy to students of the University of Michigan Ann Arbor Campus with acute and chronic injuries or illnesses.

Job Summary

To assess, plan, organize and implement specialized physical therapy treatment programs for patients with acute and chronic diseases, injuries, disorders and disabilities to  relieve pain, develop or restore physical function, wellness, fitness, quality of life as it relates to movement and health and to maintain maximum performance as prescribed by the referring clinician. To delegate to and supervise Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA). To supervise Physical Therapy students in their clinical internships at UHS.


Responsibilities*

Patient Care: 95%

  • Perform and document an initial patient exam using diagnostic and prognostic muscle, joint, nerve, and functional ability tests in order to identity dysfunction and determine a physical therapy diagnosis and establish plans and goals for treatment. Obtain patient’s consent to physical therapy plan of care and goals.
  • Perform and document periodic re-evaluations and modify physical therapy programs to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed physical therapy programs using appropriate interventions such as therapeutic exercise, modalities, manual therapy, education and self- management. Document per unit standards.
  • Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals or desired outcomes are attained and provide for follow up care or referrals as needed. Document per unit standards.
  • Delegate portions of physical therapy treatment to Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) as appropriate and co-sign PTA notes.
  • Keep current in clinical practice and changes in the profession by attending professional development courses and activities.

Teaching: 5%

  • Clinical Instructor for Physical Therapy Student Interns.
  • Provide Shadowing experiences to Pre- Physical Therapy Students.
  • Prepare and conduct in-service educational programs related to physical therapy.
  • Supervision of Physical Therapist Assistants when patient care is delegated to the Physical Therapist Assistant.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy or equivalent post Baccalaureate degree in Physical Therapy.
  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the State of Michigan.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Physical Therapist with concentration in advanced outpatient Orthopedic or Sports Medicine physical therapy practice.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience with EPIC or other electronic health record.
  • Basic computer skills.

Working conditions

Physical Therapy clinic hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday- Friday.

Physical requirements

Able to maintain a static position for extended periods of time; and move and transport patients and or objects weighing 50 pounds.

This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.

$81,500 - $85,200 starting salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.

Relocation will not be offered for this position.
