PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates professional and competent care for a diverse patient population, including those with musculoskeletal conditions and chronic pain.

Responsible for evaluation, planning, directing and administering physical therapy evaluation and intervention.  Based on the person's diagnosis, prognosis, and goals, physical therapists design and implement a customized and integrated plan of care in collaboration with the individual to achieve the individual's goal-directed outcomes. Physical therapists work towards maximizing an individual's ability to engage with and respond to their environment, emphasizing movement-related interventions to optimize functional capabilities and performance.

Performs an appropriate evaluation on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy.  Performs physical therapy interventions competently and in a safe manner. Evaluates the effectiveness of therapy intervention and communicates with other providers and team members as needed. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and administrative team.

Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.  Formulates a teaching plan for patients and families based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning.
Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Supervises and delegates responsibilities assigned to supportive staff (PTA, Rehab Aide, Students, etc.) in accordance with state law and standards of practice.  Assists with orientation and in-service training, participates in guidance and educational programs.

Documents and submits charges appropriately, timely, and accurately in accordance with standards and policies of the Physical Therapy department and UW Medical Center.

Participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in Quality Improvement activities. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.  Maintains department cleanliness and safety. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs. Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department. Supports fiscal responsibility within the department.

Demonstrates professional values in all aspects of their practice in accordance with the core values outlined by the American Physical Therapy Association. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.  Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
