Summary of Position: Reporting to the Ferris State University Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications, this position is responsible for establishing and maintaining the overall image direction for the college and providing photography and video services for Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) communications purposes. The Photographer/Videographer will create and manage all types of professional quality imagery, including but not limited to portrait, architecture, event, and artwork reproduction photography, and video of students, faculty, staff, and administration, architecture, events, and exhibitions for the promotion of the institution; manage photo and video requests; and coordinate coverage of assigned projects. This position will also have responsibilities for regularly updating environmental imagery on the KCAD campus, student work photos, and content for digital screens on campus. This position is responsible for the editing, distribution, and archiving of said photographs and videos.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Photography, Video Production or equivalent.
Required Work Experience: At least two years of experience as a professional photographer and videographer, either in commercial, fine arts, or academic setting.

Familiarity with art direction
Familiarity with additional photo/video editing software not specified above
Familiarity with digital publishing processes
Familiarity with social media platforms
Familiarity with web content management systems
3 or more years of professional photography and videography experience.
Experience with event, portraiture, architecture, and artwork reproduction photography
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Document—via photographs and or videos—key college events, which may include annual student exhibition, studio excellence awards, alumni events, gallery openings, commencement, credit and non-credit classes in-session, and other events as assigned
Document and archive selections of student work for promotions
Concept and create imagery for advertisements and other publications
Capture studio and environmental portraits of students, staff, faculty, alumni and others
Capture architecture/campus imagery
Coordinate/execute video productions, with and without recorded audio
Update the program-specific student work galleries on the KCAD website
Work collaboratively with the KCAD Galleries and UICA to document/support exhibitions and related events
Edit and enhance captured imagery, video, and audio
Maintain promotional imagery database and stock video database
Distribute appropriate imagery on social media platforms in collaboration with colleagues
Manage incoming photo and video requests, and coordinate with colleagues and clients concerning these assignments
Hire, train, and supervise Communications photo/video student employees
Develop, administer, and maintain copyright and release management policies and procedures for KCAD still imagery and video. Guide overarching image direction and consistency
Develop and coordinate photography/videography budget
Order supplies and create purchasing/independent contractor contracts as necessary
Maintain KCAD/FSU brand standards
Coordinate with the KCAD/FSU Communications teams along with KCAD faculty and staff to provide needed photographic/video services
Assist in the management and coordination of budgets, external vendors, and internal resources including purchasing, contracts and legal where necessary
Assist in the management of the KCAD YouTube channel
Organize, prioritize, and manage clients, projects, and timelines.
Maintain the college’s and university’s Communications standards.
Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Explore new imagery trends and techniques
Explore and implement new technologies for management and distribution, including new social media platforms
Undertake service on a KCAD committee
Act as the college’s representative on the Higher Education Television Authority (HETA) Board of Directors
Maintain the confidentiality of designated information
Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent file management and organization skills
Ability to operate and maintain digital SLR cameras, lighting equipment, and associated accessories
Ability to create short-form, long-form, and social media videos
Ability to capture high-quality audio and operate/maintain audio recording equipment used for video production
Mastery of Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe After Effects software
Ability to plan, organize, and make decisions
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a variety of situations
Proven time-management skills
Demonstrated commitment, experience, and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
