Overview:   

The Creative Services group is seeking a Photographer to capture images of research institutes and government departments. The incumbent will also take photos for press releases, lab events, and VIP protocol visits and high end detailed scientific images. Images may be transmitted to DOE and Congress to show support of the ORNL mission. This position will report to the Photography, Video, Reproduction, and Drone manager in the Communications Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Provide imagery for government departments and research institutes, often using cameras that allow for extreme close-ups and/or high-end photography.
  • Record industrial processes, machinery, and buildings for research purposes or corporate literature.
  • Work proficiently in software applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud (to include but not limited to Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom) to record, enhance, and manipulate images on both PC and Mac platforms.
  • Understand and perform basic video tasks in Adobe Premier.
  • Keep up with new trends in technology, especially the use of drones for photography.

Basic Qualifications:

  • AS degree in photography, photojournalism, or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance, if needed.
  • Experience shooting industrial research images, portraits, public relations, and VIP events.
  • Must work well with others and be a team-player.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in governmental, commercial, industrial, or research photography.
  • Extensive experience with studio, location lighting techniques, and product shots.
  • Experience with flying drones and knowledge of part 107 license procedure.
  • Knowledge of using alternative photographic techniques via use of helicopter, drone, Matterport and Go-Pro time lapse camera equipment.
  • Experience shooting and editing photos or videos with professional photographic cameras.
