The Center for American Indian Health Research, Hudson College of Public Health, University of Oklahoma Health Science Center is looking to hire a Phlebotomist to work on a research study involving Native American people. The person who will be hired for this position will recruit study participants, perform venipuncture and medical testing on study participants, collect specimens, and transport blood specimens.
Duties:
- Processes laboratory orders from providers.
- Documents HIPAA required information and verifies patient information before collection of specimens.
- Responsible for efficiently and accurately performing venipuncture on patients or study participants.
- Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection on the vials and delivers specimen samples to the laboratory for processing and testing.
- Collects specimens from adults and children such as stool and urine.
- Instructs patients in self-collect specimens.
- Performs various medical tests such as urinalysis or centrifuge blood samples.
- Prepares specimens for transport.
- Labels all samples and storage tubes and logs all samples obtained into the database..
- Transports specimens to laboratories and departments.
- Maintains equipment associated with venipuncture.
- May clean, store, and order such equipment.
- Ensures patient privacy adhering to Health Insurance and Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures, Federal, State, and local regulations and standards.
- Documents testing and results in a quality control log.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Job Requirements

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED AND:
- 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or completion of formal phlebotomy certification training from a vocational training institute
Skills:
- Knowledge of infection control policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Detail oriented.
Certifications:
- Licensed Phlebotomist in the State of Oklahoma or completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
