The Department of Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applications for a one-semester part-time adjunct instructor to teach Philosophy and Literature during the Fall of 2024. The course description is as follows: This course will examine the relationship and influence of ancient and western philosophy on great works of English literature as well as the ways in which works of literature can also be read as philosophical texts. Students will develop analytic reading abilities that will allow them to discern major arguments from long essays and monographs and conduct close readings of texts both in literature and philosophy.
AOS: Successful candidates will have a PhD in philosophy or relevant field (or be in the final stages of earning a PhD) and a demonstrated ability to teach Philosophy to undergraduate students.
AOC: Successful candidates must have the ability to teach in areas that cohere with the department's philosophical strengths and orientation. The department currently has particular teaching needs in the area of Philosophy and Literature.
