Summary of Job Duties:

This Pharmacy Technician Supervisor will function as the lead technician for sterile compounding in the Cancer Institute Pharmacy. They will perform all duties of a Pharmacy Technician I/II/III, including working online in the Cancer Institute Pharmacy. In addition, they will assume primary responsibility for ensuring that all documentation is completed for all cleaning tasks and that temperature, pressure, and humidity readings are documented properly. They will also ensure that all training related to sterile compounding is completed and documented properly. They will be knowledgeable about all aspects of sterile compounding, including IV room workflows, aseptic technique, and the use of any software such as the electronic health record or IV workflow management software, as well as equipment such as Repeater Pumps and primary engineering controls. They will assist pharmacists with prioritization of work in the IV room based on workload and staffing and will help maintain efficiency and appropriate turnaround time. They will serve as a resource and role model for others, exemplifying excellent sterile compounding technique and upholding all policies, procedures, and safe work practices related to sterile compounding. They will also always model excellent customer service and UAMS core values.
The Pharmacy Technician IV will also participate in the training of all technician I/II/III staff and student employees. They will be competent to perform all duties of the Pharmacy Technician I/II/III, including compounding sterile preparations (including chemotherapy). They will serve as a back-up for the Technician IV buyer when needed, and work closely with the Assistant Director of Pharmacy to support the operations of the Infusion Services division, as well as the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Service Line, and the institution.

Qualifications:

Required :

  • Undergraduate degree OR equivalent relevant pharmacy experience (i.e. previous lead technician in a sterile compounding setting, etc.)
  • Four (4) years of relevant pharmacy technician experience (i.e. previous hospital pharmacy experience, previous sterile compounding experience, hazardous drug handling, etc.)
  • Arkansas Pharmacy Technician Registration
  • National Technician Certification (PTCB)
  • Within one year of start date, will complete a specialized certificate program in sterile compounding (i.e. through ASHP or PTCB)

Preferred :

  • B.S. or higher degree
  • ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training
  • Previous sterile compounding experience, hazardous drug handling, etc.
  • Previous management or team leader experience
  • Specialized certificate or certification (i.e. PTCB Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician, ASHP Sterile Compounding Certificate, 340B Certification, etc.)
