Summary of Job Duties:

The Pharmacy Technician I/II/III will work under the supervision of the pharmacist to provide excellent customer service to patients receiving specialty medications. This technician will be responsible for dispensing functions for specialty medications with a focus on shipping including cold chain and room temperature pack outs. Duties will include troubleshooting delivery issues with the carriers and management of shipping supplies and restocking.

Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Technician I

    • High School Diploma or GED

    • Registered Technician with the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy

    Technician II

    • Technician 1 Requirements PLUS:

    • National Technician Certification (PTCB)

    • 2 years of pharmacy technician work experience

    Technician III


    • Technician II Requirements PLUS:
    • 3 years relevant pharmacy technician experience

    • Work in a specialized role: Shipping

    • Computer skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Technician I

    • 1 year relevant pharmacy technician experience

    • 1 year work experience

    Technician II

    • ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training or certificate program

    • Relevant pharmacy technician experience

    • Computer skills

    Technician III

    • ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training or certificate program

    • Prior experience in specialized role (shipping)

    • Undergraduate degree


    Additional Information:


    Responsibilities:

    • Understands how to operate all equipment (Parata Max, Pitney/Bowes, Counterpoint, Kirby Lester counter, load printers, fax machines).

    • Processes prescriptions in a timely manner with a focus on patient safety and clean claims. 

    • Accurately fill orders, averaging less than four errors daily. 

    • Has an understanding of hazardous drugs and their handling. 

    • Understands and follows all policies and procedures related to medication processing. 

    • Labels all prescription bottles accurately and neatly applying all auxiliary labels.  Enters lot and expirations dates as required. 

    • Possesses knowledge of the adjudication process and can trouble shoot rejected claims.

    • Completes all documentation required for refill coordination. 

    • Provides proper patient paperwork necessary to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations and accreditation bodies. 

    • Professionally communicates with payers and PBMs. 

    • Learns the process of accurately shipping medication (including cold chain) and the tracking of shipments. 

    • Alerts the buyer to any medications in short supply.

    • Processes prescriptions through point-of-sale software. 

    • Prepares shipping carrier labels correctly and efficiently. 

    • Inventories shipping supplies daily to determine needs and communicates needs to the buyer. 

    • Restocks all shipping supplies daily.

    • May perform other duties as needed.
