Summary of Job Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, the Pharmacy Technician I/II/III supports the outpatient pharmacist with the preparation and delivery of medications to ambulatory patients or outpatient clinics. The Pharmacy Technician I/II/III will work as a team member to efficiently, and accurately perform day-to-day work along with any additional tasks or projects to help achieve departmental goals.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Level I:

  • Pharmacy technician license through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy or eligible for AR licensure.

Level II:

  • Two (2) years of pharmacy technician work experience
  • Pharmacy technician license through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy or eligible for AR licensure.
  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician  (CPhT)  issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

Level III:

  • Three (3) years of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or retail setting
  • Pharmacy Technician License through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy or eligible for AR licensure.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) issued by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and EMR experience)

According to the UAMS Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder, a Pharmacy Technician II/III may be assigned one of these specialized roles: automation, controlled substances, pharmacy buyer, investigational drugs, medication reconciliation, compounding specialist or WAM (retail) order entry, and may also support operations of the vaccine clinics.

Responsibilities:

  •  Assists pharmacists with patient outreach and answers phones regularly

  • Communicates professionally and efficiently with patients and other staff

  • Maintains appropriate records and paperwork, electronically and/or on paper

  • Delivers medication to employees/patients in a timely and accurate manner 

  • Promotes a safe working environment and maintains clean work surfaces in all dispensing areas 

  • Understands and complies with requirements of the 340B program

  • Cross-trained and can work in multiple areas

  • Floats to other areas when work is caught up

  • Restocks assigned areas daily or as needed

  • Other duties as assigned
