Position Summary:
Oversee and supervise activities within the pharmacy. Coordinate department training, scheduling and staff evaluation process. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* GOALS & OBJECTIVES - Work with management in planning and implementing goals and objectives incorporating the needs identified by department personnel and customers
* PATIENT CARE - Organize and maintain proper flow within the inpatient area
* PATIENT CARE - Establish appropriate criteria for patient counseling, reviewing medication histories and monitoring the patients' drug therapy
* PATIENT CARE - Ensure pharmacist participation in Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition
* PATIENT CARE - Coordinate and participate in nursing station and crash cart inspections
* TRAINING - Conduct or delegate in-service education programs for pharmacy staff and employees outside the Department of Pharmacy
* SUPERVISION - Assume proper responsibilities for pharmacy interns
* SUPPLY - Assist in the pharmaceutical bid process and participate in the maintenance of adequate drug and inventory supply
* QUALITY - Participate in the department quality assurance program and performs regular QA audits for section activities; prepares reports of these audits for the Director and Assistant Director and implements corrective actions
* PATIENT CARE - Participate in compounding and dispensing functions as needed
* INVENTORY - Assure the pharmacy inventories are inspected routinely to ensure that drugs which are outdated and/or have lost their potency are removed from stock and replaced
* LIAISON - Serve as a liaison for assigned area; coordinate activities in collaboration with other staff professionals, divisions, departments and organizations; may chair steering committees
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Pharmacist License in New Mexico
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification w/in 6 months
* PALS w/in 6 months of position
Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
