The Pharmacy Manager provides leadership for Pharmacy Cedars-Sinai Medical Network. In collaboration with the Executive Director of Pharmacy and Nutrition Services, the Senior Manager will plan, manage, and monitor all aspects of the Pharmacy Department’s operations, including staffing, personnel performance, medication inventory, costs and utilization review, patient safety, clinical services, and quality improvement. The Senior Manager identifies and implements opportunities to improve departmental operations, clinical care, quality and clinical efficiency. The position designs and directs process improvement activities, EMR optimizations, and projects across the Health System and with external vendors. The Senior Manager assesses needs of new physicians and groups, and ensures that pharmaceutical and nutrition services are delivered efficiently and effectively. The Senior Manager covers all departmental daily operations in the Director’s absence.

  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation and maintenance of clinical pharmacy and nutrition programs to ensure clinical services meet the requirements and needs of the physicians and patient population;
  • Assure compliance with all regulatory and Cedars-Sinai policies and procedures;
  • Develop and maintain a Pharmacy Repository for protocols;
  • Provide direction and coaching to the Pharmacy and Nutrition Manager(s) and Pharmacy Program Coordinator(s) on the supervision of clinical pharmacists and support personnel, program evaluation, and policy and procedure adherence, physician and patient relations, and process improvement.
  • Oversee the clinical and operational performance of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy support specialists; Provide professional growth and development to the clinical pharmacists through timely and constructive feedback; issue corrective action when necessary;
  • Ensure job descriptions are accurate and up to date;
  • Responsible for timely completion of Performance Reviews and Competency Assessment; oversight for colleague time away, overtime work, ensuring that policies and procedures are followed;
  • Support clinical and financial performance through coordination of clinical pharmacist involvement in programs aimed at improving cost-effective medication use and improved quality of care;
  • Establish and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with physicians and other departments;
  • Participate as a coordinator of and a preceptor in the ambulatory learning experiences for the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency and student programs;
  • Coordinate and lead committee meetings (i.e. Pharmacy and Therapeutics) with committee chairs. Provide clinical knowledge during meetings and organizes the participation of other pharmacy staff;
  • Participate in other multidisciplinary committees as needed;
  • Enforce company drug rep policy and meet with drug reps when appropriate;
  • Oversee Pharmacy Program Coordinator in overseeing Injection Center operations
  • Oversee Refill Center operations; clinical pharmacist and pharmacy support specialist schedule and staffing demands, new provider onboarding, protocol development, compliance and reporting, ensuring that policies and procedures are followed;
  • Evaluate data that measures the efficiency and efficacy of Pharmacy Services and lead process improvement initiatives accordingly;
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of Pharmacy, establish goals for the department and develop tactics to meet those goals.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of Pharmacy, ensure departmental strategies are in line with the organizational strategies by collaborating with key leaders;
  • Identify and implement pharmacy related Total Cost of Care Initiatives (i.e. generic medication reporting, physician dashboards as it relates to generic drug rates, high cost specialty drugs);
  • Participate in review of medication use processes, and development and implementation of evidence based protocols through involvement in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee;
  • Train and supervise pharmacists to serve as “drug use pharmacists” for high cost injectable authorizations;
  • Continuously improve the process for reviewing drug appropriateness and authorization;
  • Lead various quality efforts, such as P4P, coding, etc.;
  • Serve as primary resource to EIS for all matters related to ambulatory pharmacy; serves as subject matter expert related to using CS-Link for safe, appropriate and efficient drug ordering and management (i.e. Preference lists, SmartSets, new drugs, injectables);
  • Lead innovative projects with external vendors and Techstars companies to test opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Develop, implement and support drug therapy management programs focused on optimizing patients therapeutic outcomes and patient satisfaction;
  • Design and evaluate processes to improve systems and patient care results across the continuum of care;
  • Develop and support patient-centered medical home (PCMH) role for the clinical pharmacist;
  • Provide drug information and education to healthcare providers, staff, and patients/caregivers as needed;
  • Evaluate departments drug therapy management programs clinical outcomes and develops tools for tracking interventions;
  • Collaborate with CSMC to ensure Transitions of Care Programs are effective for post discharge med rec;
  • Responsible for Drug Safety Alerting to physicians, other departments, patients when appropriate;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm.D.) 
  • Masters in Public Health or Health Administration preferred
  • Current California Pharmacist license required
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required
  • American Heart Association (AHA) approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the probationary period
  • Completion of postgraduate residency or fellowship training (preferably in ambulatory/primary care)
  • Prefer eight or more years of progressive experience in the delivery of primary care pharmacy management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology as related to drug usage
  • Comprehensive knowledge of common disease states and pathologies and ability to apply current pharmacological and biopharmaceutical principles
  • Ability to comprehend patient medical management plans
  • Ability to extract pertinent information from the patient or other sources and relate it to the medical management plan
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards relative to Institutional Pharmacy practice and prescription dispensing
  • Ability to prioritize workflow
  • Basic PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
