Position Summary:

As the largest provider of cancer care in the region, the University of Tennessee Medical Center's Cancer Institute offers the broadest spectrum of cancer specialists and services to care for the adult population. The 83,000-square-foot cancer area is equipped with features that support and enhance the comprehensive services provided to oncology patients and is devised to meet the needs of patients, families, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other staff. Our multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists provides patients with the highest quality of care.

The Clinical Oncology Pharmacy Supervisor oversees our oncology pharmacists and their clinical responsibilities. He or she primarily staffs our main campus ambulatory oncology pharmacy but will also have rotational staffing responsibilities on our inpatient oncology service, inpatient transplant and cellular therapy service, and 2nd ambulatory oncology pharmacy located at Lenoir City Regional Health Center.

The Pharmacy Supervisor in Oncology:

  • Supervises oncology pharmacists and technicians

  • Maintains clinical pharmacy compliance with local, state, and national laws

  • Collaborates with our operational oncology pharmacist supervisors at main campus and Lenoir City pharmacies to identify service-related issues and opportunites for improvement

  • Collaborates with inpatient and outpatient nursing and physicians to identify service-related issues and opportunities for improvement

  • Facilitates research projects and quality improvement initiatives as needed to advance practice

  • Participates in all aspects of the medication-use system while providing comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care as a member of interdisciplinary teams

  • Completes pharmacy consults/clinical interventions, interdisciplinary collaboration, stewardship of appropriate utilization of medications, integrated operational support, and departmental leadership as required by the position

  • Has additional responsibilities including education to patients, peers, medical, and nursing staff about the management, prescribing and monitoring of therapies used in oncology

  • Completes external presentations, publications, and professional speaking is strongly encouraged and supported

  • May serve as a preceptor for the PGY2 Oncology and PGY1 Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, or Ambulatory Care Residency Programs

  • Provides precepting mentorship for Doctor of Pharmacy students


Position Qualification:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy

  • ASHP accredited Hematology/Oncology Residency, Pharmacy Management Residency, or Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy preferred

  • 2-3 years of oncology pharmacy experience

  • Tennessee pharmacy licensure (or eligible)
