Job Summary
The College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), seeks an outstanding nurse researcher for a tenured position to serve as Program Director of our PhD in Nursing programs. Individuals who meet the qualifications for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure will be considered for an endowed professorship. We seek a faculty member with outstanding qualifications who shares the University’s core values of high standards of excellence in innovative and collaborative research, combined with fostering an open environment that promotes participation of underrepresented groups in research. Candidates with outstanding skills in all areas of nursing research, with experience educating and mentoring new nurse scientists are welcome to apply. We are open to applicants interested in the PhD Program Director and also tenured faculty positions. Individuals with experience as a faculty member or leader in PhD programs in nursing as well as those with research programs and teaching expertise in areas of clinical practice, advanced practice nursing, public health, patient outcomes, leadership, informatics, policy, will receive preference. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The individual will serve as the Program Director for the PhD in Nursing, have an independent program of research and will collaborate with colleagues in Nursing, Kinesiology and Public Health within the college and with other disciplines across the university. Opportunities for collaboration in conducting research are extensive at UTA. All faculty contribute to the academic mission and teach in one of our established academic programs. We foster and support interdisciplinary research and education.
Required Qualifications
1. PhD in Nursing or related field from research intensive program
2. Eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse in Texas; minimum of three years of clinical and/or research leadership/mentorship preferred.
3. Active program of research supported by a strong history of external funding and publications for established researchers.
4. Demonstrated commitment to nursing research, education, and service.
5. Eligible for tenure as Associate or Full Professor

In recent years, CONHI has accomplished a tremendous expansion of its profile as a research enterprise, which is among the most impressive accomplishments of the College. For FY 2020, the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research ranked CONHI #26 in receipt of NIH funding among Schools of Nursing.
In FY 2020/2021, CONHI had active research awards totaling nearly $30 Million, including multi-year funding, and over forty active research faculty members. The College now has ongoing translational research that includes basic sciences, clinical, applied and community studies in areas such as aging, cardiovascular, cardio-oncology, mental health, women’s health, skeletal muscle (aging and sarcopenia), patient safety, rural health, health disparities and vulnerable populations.
CONHI offers an outstanding research environment with access to state-of the art research facilities and extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations. Research centers led by CONHI faculty include UTA Multi-Interprofessional Center of Health Informatics (MICHI), the North Texas Genome Center (NTGC), the Bone-Muscle Research Center, as well as a number of established labs including the Human Neural Cardiovascular Control Laboratory, the Applied Physiology Laboratory, the Advanced Imaging Laboratory, and the Healthcare Innovation Lab. Additional local resources are also available to UTA researchers. UTA is part of UT Southwestern’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and participates in a partnership with the Dallas-Fort Worth Federal Statistical Research Data Center that allows approved researchers to access confidential microdata from the Census Bureau and other federal agencies providing a locally available option for accessing restricted versions of datasets available for health studies.
The CONHI is particularly interested in recruiting an innovative nurse scientist who can lead the college’s PhD Program in Nursing and make a significant contribution to the college’s overarching theme of programming and research in health and disease across the lifespan, with a focus on advancing health and the human condition. Ideal candidates will have a broad understanding and interest in interdisciplinary studies. Research on how social determinants of health affect the health of populations is valued. Relevant research backgrounds may include clinical research, basic sciences, health disparities, social determinants of health, aging, among others. Candidates must demonstrate active, externally funded research agendas, with a strong history of funded research and scholarly productivity.
