Summary
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an early-career Ph.D. investigator who has training in mass spectrometry relevant to medicine. The investigator will work alongside Dr. Eberlin leading translational research projects involving the MasSpec Pen technology. This individual will make decisions and take responsibility for scientific progress and help manage large teams of investigators involved in clinical research projects.
Job Duties
- Oversee and coordinate logistics and execution of various research projects.
- Manage project progress and execution of project goals and milestones.
- Plan and direct research experiments related to research studies implementing the MasSpec Pen technology for tissue analysis and cancer detection.
- Organize, evaluate, and analyze data with other researchers.
- Develop research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
- Conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Document results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
- Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the activities of the research team involved in multiple research projects.
- Write progress reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals.
- Manage execution of experiments using mass spectrometry instrumentation, as well as data and statistical analysis.
- Lead clinical studies and participate in research involving human subjects. Interact directly with clinicians, surgeons, and pathologists to fulfill the aims of the research projects.
- Supervise research staff including graduate and undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in mass spectrometry is required in addition to 3 years postdoctoral research experience.
- Successful track record of collaboration with clinical investigators and in interdisciplinary teams.
- Accomplished academic record sufficient to fulfill criteria for an assistant professor level faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine.
