PGY1 Preliminary Internal Medicine Residents at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at Holy Cross Hospital participate in structured programs to develop skills in all six of the general competencies as outlined by the ACGME. Each resident must demonstrate basic competency in these areas. These programs run concurrently in their rotation assignments but often involve patient experience on their assigned clinical rotations. This position is for a one (1) year duration.

2. Synthesizes data into a problem list and differential diagnosis.
3. Formulates diagnostic and therapeutic plans and performs basic clinical procedures.
4. Demonstrates caring and respectful behavior towards patients.

6. Incorporates relevant feedback and instruction into clinical activities.
7. Facilitates the learning of others on the care team.
8. Uses technology to enhance patient care and medical education.
9. Establishes an effective therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Supervision Received:
The PGY1 Preliminary Internal Medicine Resident reports directly to the Internal Medicine Program Director and is supervised by attending physicians at Holy Cross Hospital in all clinical areas.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
All PGY 1 Preliminary Internal Medicine Residents must have a M.D. or D.O degree.
Certification and Licensing:
ECFMG certification is required for medical degrees obtained outside the United States.
PGY 1 Preliminary Internal Medicine Residents must maintain a valid training license in the State of Florida throughout the duration of the training program.
PGY 1 Preliminary Internal Medicine Residents must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) throughout the duration of the training program.
