Description of Work Unit
The Department of Agricultural Biology is committed to excellence in the creation and dissemination of knowledge about insects, plant pathogens, and weeds in agricultural, natural, and urban ecosystems. Our mission is to enhance human well-being by improving ecosystem sustainability. In addition to generating new knowledge, we apply knowledge in entomology, plant pathology, and plant sciences to solving practical problems related to biotic and abiotic plant stress, integrated pest management, and ecosystem health. People in Agricultural Biology participate in and value cooperative and collaborative efforts with other units within the University, as well as with individual stakeholders and other organizations in Colorado and beyond. Position Summary
The Pesticide Educational Developer works under the direction of the Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) Coordinator and in coordination with the Pesticide Outreach Specialist. This position coordinates with the Colorado Department of Agriculture, CSU Online, other state and federal government agencies, university research and extension personnel, professional organizations, and others to plan and develop pesticide safety educational programs for fieldworkers, pesticide handlers, pesticide applicators, and other trainers of these clientele. This position supports development and delivery of programs that provide objective information about pesticide use and safety in order to reduce pesticide risks to human health and the environment. The Developer participates in program planning and grant budget management, and supports the efforts of the PSEP Coordinator to identify priorities, engage cooperators and disseminate resources to achieve program goals. In addition, the position develops or assists in the identification, research and development of outreach materials and training programs and also conducts systematic review of program materials to assure they are up-to-date and meeting clientele needs.

Required Job Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a field closely related to agriculture or education.
Experience in agriculture, education, or a similar field
Organizational skills to prioritize tasks and simultaneously manage multiple projects to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and productivity.
Technical skills to work in a computerized environment in order to
  • Effectively use Mac OS-based applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams);
  • Use task management software and train PSEP team how to use it
  • Develop and troubleshoot content in a learning management software such as Canvas.
  • Use Qualtrics and other survey software
  • Use Adobe Creative Cloud suite and other design software (Canva, Piktochart) for publication needs
  • Use website design and management tools such as WordPress

Written communications skills in composing, editing, proofreading, and copy-editing technical material to correct for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and established style. Includes skills to incorporate suggested edits from multiple people with different backgrounds and viewpoints.
Verbal and Interpersonal communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse range of individuals and perspectives.
Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Manages the revision of applicator certification study guides and coordinates their implementation with Colorado Department of Agriculture.
Manages the development of exam questions and coordinates their implementation with the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
Researches content and develops materials to support in-person and online training programs, presentations, hands-on trainings, and train-the-trainer programs (“training programs”) for those seeking applicator certification or recertification, or related pesticide trainings.
Coordinate online course build in collaboration with CSU’s Instructional Design and Professional Education teams.
Assures currency and accuracy of pesticide educational materials, including publications, online and in-person trainings, videos, and website content through regular review and evaluation. Identifies areas that need updating and development. Works with appropriate IPM and pesticide experts and IT staff to update material. ability to use judgment to identify how best to resolve consistency or accuracy problems; .
Prepares printed study materials as well as online and in-person educational training materials to meet applicator certification and recertification needs.

Duty/Responsibility
Coordinates with the Colorado Department of Agriculture and federal sponsors of pesticide education activities and resources, including coordinating meetings, and preparing reports and other communications.
Develops and manages pesticide regulatory training program database to maintain accurate records of program attendance, historical course rotations, agencies served, and attendance trends.
Improves process flows by introducing communication plans, creating knowledge and source documents, creating unique excel solutions, and reducing unnecessary actions. Develops and maintains timelines and deliverable schedules, and ensures timelines are met.
Prepares grant budgets, manages grant expenditures, and provides information to help the Coordinator make budget-related decisions.
Provides day-to-day support to the program, including interacting with clients by phone, email or in person. Answers routine questions related to pesticides, pesticide safety, and pesticide certifications, licenses, and required trainings.

Evaluates effectiveness of pesticide training programs. Designs and implements surveys in and other assessment tools. Analyzes data and produces summary reports.
Performs database queries (e.g., pesticide use data, pesticide enforcement data, labor statistics), surveys of clientele groups, and works with expert, clientele, and stakeholder teams to determine training locations, topics, content and develop agendas.
Uses results of training evaluations to update priorities and works with Coordinator to redirect program efforts as appropriate.
