Under minimal supervision, provides human resources services within the Facilities Division to include employee relations, compensation, benefits and other HR support as needed to assigned departments. Specific areas of responsibility will include maintaining job descriptions, management and oversight of FMLA and OJI activities, facilitating monthly orientation event and supervising staff. Will maintain compensation data and provides salary analysis and recommendations to leadership. Develops implements and supports programs and initiatives to improve departmental HR processes and services. Coordinates employee relations and conflict resolution activities for assigned area. May represent Facilities within the UAB Community. Expected to maintain current knowledge of human resources procedures and UAB Policies. A passion for people and commitment to ensuring consistent application of policies and procedures will be a key to success in this role.

The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. 

Employee Relations 

  • Works with Directors, Managers and Supervisors to review employee relations concerns. 

  • Reviews relevant UAB and Division policies and procedures and ensures corrective action guidelines are followed. 

  • Presents recommendations for corrective actions.  

  • Assists with employee coaching, counseling, and investigations. 


  • Maintains compensation data.
  • Provides salary recommendations for new hires, promotions, probationary increases, and merit increases. 

  • Facilitates updates to Job Descriptions.  

Performance Management 

  • Support the implementation of performance management program strategies, processes and tools.

  • Initiates an employee’s 6-month, 90-day, and yearly performance evaluation.

  • Works with departments to ensure employee performance is properly tracked and documented.

  • Works with departments to develop performance improvement plans for employees with needed. 

FMLA and OJI Program Management

  • Ensures proper tracking and communication of FMLA and PPL are maintained.  

  • Stays abreast of FMLA Legal and UAB procedural activities. 

  • Ensures proper tracking and communication of OJI program to include payroll coordination. 

  • Works with Central HR and Training Specialist to support annual training of all managers and supervisors.

  • Alerts manager of problematic issues for further review and guidance.  

Employee Activities

  • Serves as standing member of Facilities Activities Committee for ALL Employees (F.A.C.E.) committee and actively manages and/or participates in a variety of employee activities and committees. 

  • Facilitates monthly Facilities Welcome Day, the division’s new employee orientation.

  • Assists with annual Open Enrollment activities.  

  • May serve on various committees to support division’s goals. 

Maintains Procedures 

  • Works with Manager-Human Resources and Business Process Manager to document, maintain and communicate Facilities and UAB policies and procedures.  

  • Ensures that Facilities procedures are vetted through appropriate channels, receive internal and legal approval as needed and ensures changes are communicated to appropriate audience.  

  • Develops and maintains Employee Advisory Committee to review and make recommendation for Facilities procedures. 

Reporting Metrics  

  • Focuses on developing and tracking key performance indicators and related dashboard reporting for Facilities employees. Data may include leave utilization, OJI, hire metrics, retirement and turnover data. 

  • Provides business data to managers and leadership to help make informed business decisions. 

Staff Supervision and Reception Duties:

  • Supervises support staff to ensure proper support of reception duties, calendar and meeting support, retirement, FMLA and OJI tracking are provided to customer areas.

  • Ensures Termination, Retirement, and Leaves ACT documents are accurately completed in a timely manner.   

  • Other duties as assigned. 

ANNUAL RATE OF PAY: $50,000.00 - $61,000.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)




Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) preferred.



  • Exceptional customer service and collaboration skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel

  • Data analysis
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows environment software to include advanced-level spreadsheet skills and Tableau experience a plus

  • Presentation and facilitation skills needed
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in person with a wide variety of employees at all levels of the organization is essential.

  • HR Generalist experience needed, with employee relations and compensation skills being most desirable.


Must maintain a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States. Motor Vehicle Record will be obtained and reviewed at least annually. Driving record should meet University underwriting standards to drive vehicle in performance of University business.


Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform duties and responsibilities of this position including:

  • Work at a PC computer station for long periods of time.
