Summary of Duties:

The Personnel and Financial Assistant in the Animal Sciences Department is responsible for performing a variety of complex and varied financial and/or personnel support functions including analysis, developing, planning, interpreting, and review of operational tasks involving an overlap or combination of disciplines, including: Personnel appointments/processing, Payroll, Purchasing, Travel, Service Center Billing, and budget reconciliation and forecasting for: state, local, gift and grant budgets. This position will be trained in all areas the Administrative Manager is responsible for as a succession plan and backup for the department when needed.


The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Agricultural, Natural, and Human Resource Sciences is a large department that supports Teaching, Research, and Extension. Our undergraduate program is one of the largest in the College. We support several Service Centers, these include the Knott Dairy Center which provides the milk for Ferdinand’s cheese and ice cream, the Ensminger Beef Center raises Wagyu and Angus cattle and provides our Premium Beef Products. We have a Feed Mill that mixes our feed for the animals, a Farm Services shop that supports the other center’s maintenance and repairs, and a Meats Lab that does custom processing and sells our Premium Beef products. These centers not only have active research and teaching going on but also provide student employment for real life agricultural experience.


Required Qualifications:

  • Three years of fiscal record keeping experience; OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, with persons of varying levels of responsibility and experience orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrate ability to navigate basic office software.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of WSU Business policies and procedures in finance, personnel and administrations.

  • Knowledge and experience with Workday HCM and FDM areas and roles.

  • Experience in higher level education, local or state agency, or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of and experience with processing international personnel appointments.

Monthly Salary:

Range 40, $3,376.00 - $4,497.00 (Steps A - M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 .
