Performance Analyst, OA Agreements

Permanent, Full-Time

The Open Access team is responsible for overall OA revenue and strategy, and successfully managing Springer Nature’s OA transition, including performance monitoring, business model migration & transformative agreements, & policies. Working in close co-ordination with sales & publishing teams, our team supports all areas of Springer Nature’s OA ambitions and strategy.

Purpose of the role:

Reporting into the Head of Performance, OA agreements, the role will support the business transition to open access through monitoring and analysing performance data relating to institutional, consortia, & society agreements, and extracting key insights to report to stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

Performance analysis

  • Enhance existing performance monitoring and reporting processes through dashboards, graphs, and visualisations to provide efficient portfolio overview insights as well as customer-specific reports. Provide deep-dive analysis of specific customer performance and activity to identify opportunities and challenges within agreement performance. Provide insights and commentary to stakeholders to support the data. Build excellent relationships with data providers across the business to investigate and implement systems to achieve parity in data reported from different sources, to ensure we gather data from the most accurate data sources for reporting. Develop good understanding of the strategic and tactical goals for the OA Agreements to enable effective data interpretation.

Article modelling support

  • Develop and maintain forecast processes to track and predict performance for active OA Agreements, which can be fed into budget and forecasting processes. Develop and maintain efficient processes for modelling the impact of anticipated changes to journal portfolios on agreement performance (for example, journal business model changes, journal losses/acquisitions). Work with data providers and wider OA Agreements team to enhance and maintain efficient process for modelling agreement sizing for new/proposed agreements.

Experience, Skills/Knowledge, Qualifications:

  • Training (including work experience) in a field related to science or data analysis. Publishing industry experience desirable. Experience with data analysis is essential. Experience with data visualisation software (e.g. Tableau) and Google BigQuery desirable. Excellent communication skills, particularly when translating data into concise statements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for data and an understanding of how to work with large data sets. Excellent data presentation and report writing skills, and a keen eye for detail. Experience in a commercial environment and awareness of key business drivers and customer relationships. Willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies. Willing and able to adapt to multiple demands and shifting priorities. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferably in a scientific subject, or non-science subject with demonstrated maths or statistics experience.
