JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Alumni Association’s Volunteer Engagement team is seeking a dynamic, caring, energetic, self-directed, and thoughtful team member to provide the oversight, direction, project management, and operations for the role of Regional Director. The position works to increase alumni support and participation in University organizations and activities through a network of Penn State Chapters (geographically-based groups) – as well as other volunteer opportunities. The Regional Director serves as a primary liaison for alumni chapter volunteers, providing consultative services that are consistent with team goals and procedures, assisting chapters with organizational development through guidance, support, advice, and training. Because our chapters are found across the country and building and maintaining relationships with the volunteers is critical, this role requires extensive travel and work on evenings and weekends.

At a pivotal time for the Penn State Alumni Association, the incoming Regional Director will help the organization innovate, inspire alumni and friends from diverse backgrounds, and aid the organization in realizing its goals and commitments to engagement by leveraging Penn State’s network of diverse volunteers.

This role is responsible for the following primary duties:

  • Provide coaching, direction, and strategy to the Alumni Association’s network of Chapters and their boards, volunteers, etc.
  • Through individual relationships and support, assist in establishing a network and pipeline of volunteers for the Alumni Association and University.
  • Evaluate existing programs and services and utilize results to determine strategies to best support the changing needs for volunteer opportunities.
  • Lead and serve on project teams, including those within the volunteer engagement team and beyond.
  • Collaborate and develop and maintain working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (Alumni Association, DDAR, University, and beyond).

In addition to these duties, the Regional Director will manage selected constituent activities within the Alumni Association, including communications, event planning, and volunteer relations. Through strong communication skills, the successful candidate will develop and produce internal and external presentations, proposals, and reports for the Alumni Association and others.

The Engagement team of the Alumni Association develops and implements a broad range of programs and services that facilitate the connection of alumni and students to each other and the University. In addition to the Volunteer Engagement unit, the team consists of Alumni Career Services, Alumni Events and Travel, and Administrative Support.

Education and Experience

Minimally requires a Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with alumni and student engagement and advising, volunteer management, stewardship, supervision, and financial oversight. In addition, the ideal candidate should have the ability to manage a complex program and build relationships with students, alumni, and friends.

Additional qualifications include the following: ability to successfully advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion; Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to engage a diversity of individuals and populations through effective presentations; and Experience collaborating within a complex organization.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
