Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill up to four part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Peer Advisor positions for the Office of Student Success (OSS) in the College of Health (COH). 
The OSS provides support and services to COH students in the following areas: academic advising, internships, study abroad, career development, graduate programs admissions, and accreditation and assessment. Peer Advisors will act as COH ambassadors to OSU students, prospective students, parents, the campus community and the larger community, informing these groups about COH academic programs and experiences. 
This will be accomplished through various events: START orientations, campus visits, tours, workshops, and other events. This position also provides clerical support for the office in the form of front desk administration, as well as advises undergraduate and prospective students either in-person, via Zoom, by phone, or on a walk-in basis. 
Position Duties
40% – Front Desk Administration – Greet students or visitors in person and over the phone to OSS. Explain services offered by the OSS. Check students in for appointments using Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Bookings. Answer phone calls and respond to questions or concerns. Create, maintain, or update office documents or spreadsheets using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher), the Google Suite, and OSS Shared Drive. Manage the COH Peer Advisor email account and promptly respond to email correspondences.
35% – Peer Advising – Deliver information and knowledge of the different academic programs offered through the COH (majors, options, minors, and certificates) to prospective and/or current students. Review student resumes and/or cover letters and provide constructive feedback through individual appointments. Assist students with class registration, university/college forms and petitions, and various online tools such as MyOregonstate, MyDegrees, and Scheduler. Direct students to an appropriate point of contact for various campus resources.
10% – Recruitment – Serve as a COH representative at all new student orientation programs (START) in the Summer, Winter and Spring terms, as well as other on or off-campus visitation programs** (i.e. Fall Preview, Beaver Open House, Spring Preview, College Nights and High School visits). Present 30-60- minute tours of/about the COH. Support and promote University/COH events (i.e. Fall Welcome Luncheon, Welcome Week events, Family Weekends, Research Seminars or Workshops, and Graduation Reception).
10% – Outreach – Assist with college outreach initiatives and events, including managing the OSS social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and the OSS Newsletter content and its weekly distribution through listservs. Reach out to prospective students who attend recruitment events or apply for admission to OSU and field questions or concerns to appropriate campus resources.
5% – Special Projects – Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned that support various initiatives in the OSS and in COH at large.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Effectively present and communicate to audiences of all sizes.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher).
  • Demonstrate initiative, dependability, discipline, creativity, and selfconfidence. 
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Preference for current full-time undergraduate students (enrolled in at least 12 credits/term) in the College Health. 
  • Preference for students who have completed at least one term in the COH with an OSU cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. 
  • Office or customer service experience, either in a business or academic environment. Knowledge of COH majors and academic regulations. 
  • Leadership experience and skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher).
  • Availability to work part or all of the summer term. Attention to detail.
