Title:  Pediatrics - Psychology (Assistant Professor)
Division:  Pediatrics
Work Location:  Houston, TX
Requisition ID:  17600

Summary

There is a great unmet need for outpatient mental health assessment and psychotherapy services for children and adolescents throughout the Houston community.  The COVID-19 pandemic has only added to the number of youth struggling with common mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, disruptive behavior, and trauma. Just as in medicine, efficient and effective assessment and psychotherapy services follow the guiding principles of evidence-based care and measurement-based treatment planning.

We propose to hire clinical psychologists to be located at the Woodlands Campuses, who would spend most of their time in direct patient care, but also provide oversight of diagnostic assessment and psychotherapy services conducted within the community-based mental health programs.

Job Duties

Patient Care activities include:

  • Utilize evidence-based screening and assessment tools to provide accurate diagnostic and conceptualization information to inform treatment planning.
  • Provide targeted, evidence-based psychotherapy intervention for patients presenting with mental health concerns.
  • Partner with other providers (medical and mental health) to ensure care is comprehensive, well-integrated, and collaborative.
  • Critically evaluate patient progress and outcomes through the use of validated measurement tools and make adjustments to treatment plans as indicated.
  • Collaborate with families, schools, and community-based partners involved in caring for patients with mental health needs.

Oversight includes activities such as:

  • Ensuring that screening, assessment, and psychotherapy services are evidence-based.
  • Assessing clinician competencies and assisting with filling training gaps.
  • Ensuring compliance with mental health-specific billing and documentation requirements.
  • Supporting and aggregating outcome data.
  • Leading team meetings.
  • Providing consultation on an as-needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A doctorate in clinical, counseling, or school psychology with a specialization in pediatric or child clinical psychology.
  • Completed both an APA-accredited psychology internship and postdoctoral training in pediatric, health, or child clinical psychology.
  • The candidate must also be licensed/license-eligible in Texas.
