Texas Children's Global Health, inclusive of BIPAI, is a global network of non-profit organizations that aim to provide high-quality, high-impact, highly ethical pediatric and family-centered health care, health professional training and clinical research, focused on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition, and other conditions impacting the health and well-being of children and families worldwide. Starting in Romania in 2001, BIPAI now treats more than 300,000 children in more than a dozen countries and remains one of the largest providers of pediatric HIV care and treatment in the world while continuing to expand its treatment of other health conditions affecting children and women worldwide. BIPAI is a joint program of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. You will be employed by Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) as a faculty member and Global Health Corp physician.


Summary

We are currently recruiting for open Global Health Corps (GHC) positions in Kampala, Uganda; Lilongwe, Malawi; Gaborone, Botswana; and Maseru, Lesotho. Application packets are due February, 15 2024. Start date typically coincides with the academic year, and this year will begin in late June/early July 2024. Begins with 4-week, intensive pre-service training in Houston before relocation to the global health site. Prefer candidates who can make a two-year commitment, though will consider those who are able to commit to one year. Position Description: Members of the Global Health Corps (GHC) are placed at Texas Children's Global Health / Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) Foundation sites across sub-Saharan Africa to provide clinical care to children and families, while also training health professionals. As a member of the GHC, physicians will be involved in direct clinical care, quality improvement, teaching and training, as well as other tasks including participation in research, monitoring and evaluation, program design, grant-writing, and report-writing.

Clinical settings are primarily at BIPAI Pediatric HIV Centers of Excellence; however, dependent on country assignment, clinical settings may also include acute care (inpatient) pediatrics, pediatric subspeciality care settings, pediatric hematology/oncology. GHCs will treat a wide variety of diseases and conditions impacting child health and survival globally, including HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition, peri-natal conditions, cancer, and sickle cell disease. Patient populations range from infants through young adults, as well as adult family members of children enrolled in care. GHCs may also be involved in outreach clinical work and training in remote regions of the country. There will likely be research collaboration opportunities within the clinic setting, as well. GHCs may serve as faculty clinical supervisors for rotating medical students, residents, and fellows.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Board eligible or board certified in Pediatrics or Family Medicine.
  • Proficiency in general pediatrics, Med-Peds, or family medicine; pediatric sub-specialists in the areas of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working in international, resource-limited settings.
