Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Section of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine, the Advance Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing consults to ambulatory pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine patients with chronic and stable conditions through regular health assessment. The primary role of the Nurse Practitioner is to collaborate with other health care professionals in assessing and managing common pulmonary and sleep health care problems, maintaining continuity of care, and coordinating services the patient requires in an outpatient setting. The APP is also encouraged to participate in teaching, research and quality improvement projects in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine.

The APP will work with all members of the team and will be under direct supervision by the Division Chief. We encourage applications with prior pediatric and pulmonology experience. The work hours for this position are variable but the position is for full time outpatient pediatric pulmonary clinic coverage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year or greater experience as a nurse practitioner
  • Direct clinical experience managing pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine patient population.
  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area
  • Graduation with a master’s degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License
  • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Basic computer skills required with knowledge and experience with electronic medical record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year or greater recent clinical experience in specialty care of the hiring department highly desirable
  • Physical ability and technical skills to interpret a variety of diagnostic studies such as pulmonary function tests, chest imaging, sleep study results, newborn screen results, Physical ability and technical skills to perform medical procedures such as spirometry testing and flexible laryngoscopy.
  • Knowledge of approved abbreviations for UCDMC medical records
  • Knowledge of durable medical equipment commonly used by our patients such as oxygen, positive airway pressure therapy devices and home ventilators
  • Knowledge of guidelines for common pulmonary and sleep medicine diseases such as asthma, sleep apnea and prematurity related lung diseases

Department Description

  • The vision of the Department of Pediatrics is the healthiest future for all children and families through outstanding patient care, transformative research, innovative medical education, and community-based advocacy. Pediatric Pulmonology Division consists of six pulmonologists, two full time nurses, two full time respiratory therapists, dieticians, social worker, and pharmacists. We have several multidisciplinary programs including severe asthma clinic, cystic fibrosis clinic, long term ventilation clinic, as well as sleep clinics. Our clinics are open all days of the week and we cover about 5000 visits/year.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to work flexible schedule and overtime.
  • Physical ability to lift at least 25 pounds, physical ability/strength to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
