The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) at the University of Oregon is a multi-disciplinary institute focused on understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. The core mission of the PSI is to improve the lives and well-being of at-risk children, individuals, and families throughout the lifespan.

Position Summary

The PDX Research Manager (PRM) will be responsible for a broad set of assignments across multiple federally-funded human subjects’ research projects run out of the Portland office of PSI and led by Dr. Beth Stormshak and Dr. Laura Lee McIntyre. These projects are complex and include multi-site projects, longitudinal research studies, newly funded projects, community partnerships, human subjects data activities, and pilot research and development projects. Current funded research projects within the Portland office bring in several million dollars, annually.

This position provides research administration, project coordination, and unit-level HR and financial services. The PRM works closely with principal investigators, the Project Director, Project Coordinators, and other project staff to implement human subjects research activities within the Portland office. The PRM will also be responsible for recruiting and scheduling participants, scheduling staff, and monitoring the completion of phone, in-person, and mailed participant assessments for multiple research studies within the Portland office. Recruitment duties include screening individuals inquiring about research participation to determine if they meet study inclusion criteria, completing the consent process with these individuals, and scheduling staff for data collection appointments. The PRM will collaborate with the Project Director to maintain IRB compliance on research protocols, provide support in completing grant proposals and reports, and manage the day-to-day operations. The PRM will supervise and train research assistant staff on various research tracking and administrative tasks. The PRM must have knowledge of spoken and written English sufficient to obtain, provide, or exchange scientific information. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a specific capacity for sensitivity, confidentiality, diligence, and persistence with regard to engaging and retaining subjects in the study. Ideal candidates will also have familiarity with customer service phone techniques and the ability to enthusiastically and confidently relate research project information.

Additionally, this position will interact regularly with external constituents, administrative colleagues, faculty, and students. This position will report directly to the Project Director, and will play an essential role in supporting PIs, the Project Director, project coordinators, and other project staff running projects out of the Portland PSI office.
