Summary of Duties:

The Fiscal Manager, under the direction of the Director of Payroll, will lead the Payroll Services department. The incumbent will develop, test and implement policy and system changes while ensuring data integrity. The incumbent will prepare strategic plan initiatives and interpret state and federal regulations. This position will serve as the primary point of operational and administrative contact of internal and external constituencies in regard to payroll checks, compliance, communications, overpayments and reports. The incumbent will participate in the development and implementation of data processing systems as they relate to the payroll and controller’s office operation. The incumbent will serve as an expert resource on matters of payroll. 

Typical duties include processing payroll checks, working with employees on overpayments in accordance with the OFM policies, WAC’s and BPPM’s as well as supervising the work of others who perform these duties. Ensure Workday process are correctly functioning. The incumbent will maintain University BPPM’s.

Once training is complete this position may offer a hybrid schedule of up to two days per week remote as business needs dictate.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Ability to work occasional extended work hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial report preparation. 

  • Experience with payroll taxes and non-resident alien taxation. 

  • Experience with fund accounting. 

  • Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook). 

  • Familiarity with WSU’s on-line systems.

Monthly Salary:

$4,942.10 - $7,567.00

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. Overtime Eligibility:
