BURSAR OFFICE (IN-BURS-IUINA)

The Office of the Bursar and Financial Operations provides bursar services, financial services and financial systems support for the Indianapolis, Columbus and Fort Wayne campuses of Indiana University. It is our mission to provide timely financial information and to ensure fiscal responsibility with a steadfast commitment to comprehensive, solution-driven customer service in support of the University's mission and continued growth of the campus. 

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages all student accounts, the bursar call center, student fees, billing, and refunds.  
  • Supports billing and payments related to corporate and governmental student sponsorships.
  • Provides student financial systems technical support.
  • Serves as the primary provider of banking, nonstudent client receivables billing and payment services for the campus.
  • Provides cashiering services and process payments made in office and online.
  • Records and balances all payments received and processed through the Payment Center.
  • Provides customer service for student and institutional billing and payment processes.
  • Researches transactions and account balances to address questions.
  • Attends orientation sessions for prospective and incoming students and their families.
  • Processes and balances bank deposits and assist with bank account reconciliation.
  • Provides back up support for other team members as needed, including training.

General Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, performs routine administrative tasks related to bursar accounts, such as applying tuition and fees and processing payments.
  • Audits bursar accounts and payments to ensure compliance with deadlines and applicable regulations; communicates discrepancies to supervisor and may assist with routine corrections.
  • Fields emails and phone calls, responds to inquiries and requests, and explains policies and procedures.
  • Helps students, parents, employees, sponsoring organizations, departments, and other constituents understand billing information, including deadlines, interest, payment plans, fees, and processes.
  • May serve as a resource to lower-level Bursar Assistants and university constituents.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.  

 

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED). 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years in relevant field.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
