Description

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished new Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. The fellowship provides full funding for up to two years of graduate study in the United States, with consideration given for a third-year grant when necessary and appropriate. A fellow may pursue a graduate degree in any professional field or scholarly discipline in the arts, humanities, social sciences, or sciences.

Eligibility
  • Naturalized U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens. DACA recipients, refugees, and asylees are also eligible.
  • Bachelor’s degree by the start of grant period (but not yet a PhD).
  • Less than 31 years old by time of application.
  • Those already in graduate school may apply for fellowship support to continue that study, provided you have not yet begun your third year of your graduate program by the national deadline.

Criteria for Selection
  • Demonstrated creativity, originality and initiative
  • A commitment to and capacity for accomplishment, as demonstrated through activity that has required drive and sustained effort
  • Commitment to the values expressed in the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution

Application Procedure

A complete application includes the following components:

  • Soros online application
  • Two essays on specified topics
  • Other supporting materials (articles, papers, portfolio)
  • A 1–2-page résumé
  • Three reference letters
  • Official transcripts
  • Documentation that the candidate meets the definition of “New American”
  • GRE or other standardized scores necessary for admission to one’s graduate or professional program
