Description
The University of New England Westbrook College of Health Professions (WCHP) is seeking a Patient Services Representative to join our Dental Hygiene Clinic. The DH Patient Services Representative greets and welcomes patients seeking care at our clinic. As the first point of contact for our patients, the DH Patient Services Representative plays an important role in ensuring that our patients are provided with an overall positive experience each time they visit the clinic. This role is an integral part of our operations but is also a great entry point to future opportunities within the college and university.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Office Manager of the Dental Hygiene program, the DH Patient Services Representative demonstrates a strong customer focus while representing the core values of the UNE DH Program. The person in this role support the academic mission of the Dental Hygiene Program.
  • Providing a positive, patient-centric customer service experience that supports patient flow into and throughout the DH Clinic.
  • Carefully interviewing and accurately registering new patients in the clinic information system.
  • Scheduling, rescheduling, or canceling patient appointments.
  • Entering and updating patient information, including demographics, insurance, and scheduling records, to ensure accurate electronic patient records.
  • Managing appointment check-in and appointment check-out.
  • Verifying insurance coverage.
  • Verifying methods of payment and collecting payments.
  • Arranging for patient interpreter services.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing referrals for care.
  • Supporting the academic success of our students.
  • Ensuring confidentiality related to all patient records and interactions.
  • Performing general office duties such as answering telephones, emailing, photocopying, scanning, faxing and sending out xrays and processing incoming xrays.
  • Supporting compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies by capturing signatures required on patient consents, and the maintenance of records related to guardianship, power of attorney, and the privacy and release of patient health records.
  • Being flexible and adaptive to the needs of the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Strong verbal, written, and telephone communication.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor throughout all interactions with patients, students, faculty, other professional staff, and visitors to the DH Clinic.
  • Strong commitment to providing excellent, patient-centric customer service.
  • Ability to accurately collect patient fees, and be able to perform simple math related to providing correct change, and/or recording payment information.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities within a dynamic environment.
  • Strength in navigating challenging situations with guidance and support from others.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace, as well as the ability to functionally manage computers, and type accurately.
  • Experience with the use of, or aptitude to learn, printers, copy machine, fax machine, multiline phones, and patient management/electronic health record systems.
