Job Summary:
This is a unique opportunity to help train the next generation of dental professionals and make an impact on oral health in our state while caring for the people of North Carolina.The Patient Care Coordinator will be responsible for managing all aspects of surgical coordination for patients referred for dental treatment under conscious sedation or general anesthesia. This position is directly responsible for reviewing and processing referrals from internal and external providers, transcribing referrals into EPIC, and communication with patient families to schedule pre-op and surgery appointments in preparation for surgery. This position also coordinates all team care with other UNC Hospital services including but not limited to, ENT, Pulmonary, and Plastic Surgery.The Patient Care Coordinator serves as the liaison for specialty pediatric dentistry services at Adams School of Dentistry, UNC Hospital and Ambulatory Surgical Center. This position will be responsible for maintaining a full operating room schedule, maximizing the time slots allowable by UNC Hospital. This will serve to increase learning opportunities for residents and students. Specific duties include:- coordination of care between pediatric dentistry and all pediatric specialties and sub-specialties- contacting referred patients to obtain all demographic information to register them into all required systems.- communicate with referring doctors to obtain all the required diagnostic information.- communicating with families/guardians of pediatric patients to schedule pre-op and surgery appointments in preparation for surgery.- review all surgery costs/fees with patient's guardian and obtain prior approvals for insurance authorizations.- disseminate OR surgery reports to referring doctor in a timely manner following surgery  
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of North Carolina.
