Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | Bridging knowledge and expertise at UNC Gillings, the mission of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health (NCIPH) is to facilitate collaborative solutions to population health challenges in N.C. and beyond. NCIPH uses the expertise of our staff, partners and the UNC Gillings community to transform organizations, develop leaders, translate data to action and build capacity in order to improve population health. Position Summary | This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. The Early Career Pathway Program Manager role is to advance the work of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health (NCIPH), the Practice Unit at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, and the Division of Public Health (DPH) at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) under a new strategic initiative to strengthen governmental public health workforce capacity. The Pathway Program Manager will support pathway initiatives to bring new employees into the governmental public health workforce in North Carolina. The person in this role will: -Build the recruitment, selection and matching system for internships and practica with governmental public health organizations. -Develop and implement infrastructure, policies, and procedures to recruit new professionals into NC governmental public health positions through the NC Public Health Fellowship as well as leveraging existing student opportunities such as practica and internships. -Strengthen and expand existing programs and grow partnerships with other academic institutions to build successful public health collaborations and multidisciplinary career pathways for current students and recent graduates. -Collaborate with NCIPH training and workforce development colleagues to develop and implement an annual, cohort-based training program for those who are accepted into fellowship positions. -Advance opportunities for more students to have engaged learning experiences with NCDPH and local health departments – upholding Gillings’ long history of placing graduate public health students in practica and undergraduate students in internships. -Create and administer the evaluation of the fellowship program, including development of metrics and reports to be used to measure success and make updates to strengthen the program in subsequent years. The Pathway Program Manager will also support the emerging North Carolina Academic Practice Network, made up of public health schools and programs across North Carolina as an initiative from the 2022-2028 Gillings Practice Strategic Plan. The aim of this network is to be well-connected across the various sectors of public health in NC and expand collaborations to advocate for academic health departments at the state and local level. The person in this role will: -Grow partnerships within academic institutions and government public health organizations. -Continue to build the NC Academic Practice Network of public health schools and programs. -Schedule regular meetings and professional development opportunities for the Academic Practice Network as needed and desired. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities relevant to the teaching assignment, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. In addition, the position minimums should satisfy any accreditation requirements in the specified area of instruction. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | -Demonstrated skill in coordinating complex projects and systems change with management, staff and partners faculty staff and students -Excellent listening skills and sensitivity to the needs and obligations of partners, faculty, staff and students. -Strong organizational, time management, and self-management skills. -Proficiency in MS Office Suite and 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive). |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | -Master’s level training in public health, education, or public administration. -Prior experience with coordinating post-graduate experiential programs or prior experience with staff recruitment strategies. -Prior experience working and building relationships with local and state public health agencies and organizations. -Experience with program evaluation or quality improvement initiatives. -Proficiency in Asana and/or Qualtrics. -Previous experience in administering grant-funded projects. |
