Job Summary / Basic Function
The title of this position is University Registered Nurse. This is a part-time position with working hours to accommodate a five-day workweek. The employee in this position ensures the development, implementation and evaluation for comprehensive, individualized nursing care and treatment plans for each student/patient and requires a high degree of independent judgement and organizational skills. This will include planning, directing, and coordinating episodic and observational care when assigned to work independently. This shift assignment is responsible to the RN Supervisor and the Director of Health Services. Cyclical leave will occur with this position during summer months.
OTHER DUTIES:
  • Assess and treat patients following established protocols and evaluate effectiveness of treatment of patients. Refer student/patient to CRNP, Medical Director or Urgent Care/emergency room as appropriate.
  • Treat minor injuries or illnesses symptomatically, in accordance with established guidelines. Educate student/patient and family on disease process and treatment.
  • Administer medication, including the morning after pill and birth control, and record all medications and treatments.
  • Assist in mass inoculations.
  • Participate in the Peer Review Program.
  • Review patient’s charts, encounters, and record audits.
  • Participate in the majority of the staff meetings per semester, review notes from all staff meetings and participate in staff in-service.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, therapeutic, and sanitary environment for students, patients, and staff.
  • Positions and/or lifts non-ambulatory patients to assist them with physical treatment activities.
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain registered nursing licensure and applicable certifications and credentialing file in the appropriate area of nursing expertise.
  • Maintain accountability for high standards by demonstrating a commitment to professional development and by meeting licensing requirements.
  • Ensure timely documentation in EMR.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the RN Supervisor, the Director for Health Services for PennWest, the Medical Director of Health Services, and/or the Assistant VP of Student Affairs for Wellness Services.
  • Participate in pandemic preparedness plans, communicable disease management, testing, vaccination, and treatment as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director for Health Services for PennwWest, Medical Director of the Health Services or the Assistant VP Student Affairs.

The shift options for this position are below:
  • Saturday 11am – 7 pm; Wednesday – Friday 3pm – 7pm.
  • Monday – Friday 3pm – 7pm
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Minimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary
  • Current PA RN licensure.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • A minimum of one-year professional nursing experience is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a current license to practice as a registered nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing; or possession of a non-renewable temporary practice permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of professional nursing experience.
  • BSN.
