Part-Time Transfer Admissions Assistant

The George Mason University, Office of Admissions is seeking an organized, energetic, creative, and collaborative individual to serve as a Part-Time Transfer Admissions Assistant. About the Position:  
The primary responsibility of the Part-Time Transfer Admissions Assistant, who will report to the Associate Dean and Chief Transfer Officer, is to provide admissions counseling to prospective transfer applicants in the Office of Transfer Services (OTS). The Office serves admitted as well as denied transfer students.
George Mason University is proud to enroll approximately 4,000 new transfers annually. Our transfers enroll from across the Commonwealth of Virginia and around the world. The incumbent will join a university community with a strong commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its students, faculty, and staff.
The Office of Transfer Services serves students Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The incumbent will work 20-29 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
  • Counseling prospective, admitted, and denied transfer students in individual in-person and virtual meetings;
  • Providing timely and accurate follow-up communication with students and stakeholders;
  • Collaborating with relevant advising, financial aid, and transfer credit evaluation staff to ensure superior customer service and drive transfer enrollment;
  • Supporting the Office of Admissions in participating in transfer admission events; and
  • Other duties or projects, as assigned by the Associate Dean.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Outstanding professional oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to manage sensitive and/or confidential student information;
  • Computer literacy and the ability to achieve proficiency with Ellucian Banner, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, and Microsoft Office;
  • Proven ability to work positively as a team member; and
  • Philosophy of superior customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous college/university transfer admission or transfer advising experience;
  • Bilingual; and
  • Knowledge of military educational benefits.
