The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Teacher Candidate Supervisor for Physical Education Teacher Education Program on the Dahlonega campus. This position provides observation, evaluation, direction, and guidance to the College of Education's (COE) Physical Education Teacher Education Candidates while in field and clinical placement during junior and senior years. This position requires a flexible schedule to coordinate observation and conference meetings with the Teacher Candidates and their mentor teachers in varied P-12 public school locations. The supervisor schedules and attends meetings and/or trainings with Teacher Candidates, school districts, mentor teachers, P-12 administrators, and full-time COE faculty. Supervisors are expected to be able to objectively evaluate and grade Teacher Candidates based on their classroom performance and work submitted and to able to foster Teacher Candidates' confidence and efficacy in teaching. Supervisors will be expected to have basic technological literacy skills needed to perform various supervision duties, e.g. online evaluations, email communications, etc.

  • Observe, evaluate, and guide Teacher Candidates in accordance with the requirements listed in each program¿s handbook. This includes a minimum of an introductory meeting, three documented observations, and an exit interview each semester.  This also includes submitting of all grading requirements such as but not limited to the CAPS assessment and dispositions assessments each semester and following the guidelines listed in the syllabi for each clinical course, including assessment grading on Anthology and D2L.
  • Relationship building with P-12 school partners, including maintaining and facilitating meetings with partner school mentor teachers and administrators, meeting with the appropriate school personnel to assign mentor teachers to each Teacher Candidate based on the Georgia Professional Standards Commission requirements for certification, and scheduling and leading Teacher Candidates through an initial tour of their P-12 school setting.
  • Maintaining ongoing contact with Teacher Candidates; providing ongoing support during field and clinical placement; and providing guidance and direction when and if Teacher Candidate issues occur, including Professional Development Plan meetings and follow-up to address ongoing issues.
  • Attend required faculty and Teacher Candidate meetings, including retreats and data days (accreditation requirement), student orientation, supervisor training, and program and Professional Development Community meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilties

  • Knowledge in theories and practice in teacher education. 
  • Knowledge in current certification requirements for teaching (i.e., GACE, Georgia standards). 
  • Knowledge of learning management systems.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching is essential.
  • Master's Degree required.
  • Experience teaching in P-12 setting required. 
  • Experience working with Physical Education programs required.
  • Georgia teaching certificate preferred.
