JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


Peer Tutors represent an integral part of The Center for Student Achievement. Peer Tutors will work with students on an individual and group basis to help them develop a deeper understanding of course content. Peer Tutors will represent The Center for Student Success at campus events and will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and the Center for Student Achievement Coordinator in developing workshops and providing feedback to improve student services. Peer Tutors will have the opportunity to develop as leaders by engaging in a variety of skills. They will have the opportunity to participate in problem solving and creativity as they determine effective ways of engaging with students who learn in different ways. Peer Tutors will also develop and fine-tune organizational skills as they balance individual student appointments and group-tutoring sessions. This opening also allows Peer Tutors to enhance their communication skills. This is an excellent opportunity for students who have an interest in helping professions, education, customer/client services, or any occupation in which you will utilize problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills. 


Job Duties

  • Peer Tutors will be responsible for working with individual students and groups of students in an effort to help their peers develop academic skills and deeper course knowledge.
  • Peer Tutors must be dependable, responsible, and patient.
  • Peer Tutors will be expected to work collaboratively and abide by a professional code of conduct.
  • Peer Tutors will be expected to be prompt for appointments and classes, take complete and organized notes, manage time efficiently, handle problems tactfully and effectively, and keep information regarding all students confidential.
  • Peer Tutors will be expected to attend on-going professional development and monthly staff meetings. 


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and an A- or A in the subject(s) they wish to tutor.
  • A 2.5 cumulative GPA must be maintained while serving as a Peer Tutor.
  • Peer Tutors should possess effective study habits, strong interpersonal skills, and a responsible work ethic.
