SVPVA Peer Educators provide accurate, engaging, and necessary sexual violence prevention education to Indiana University students. Peer Educators will primarily present the 90-minute "It's On Us: Bystander Intervention Program" that is required for first-year students. However, they may also be invited to participate in and help lead other prevention programming through SVPVA.    

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Peer Educator Opportunities
    • Builds your public speaking and program facilitation skills.  
    • Increases your understanding of all forms of sexual misconduct and sexual violence prevention education practices.  
    • Contributes to campus programming focused on sexual health education.  
    • Becomes a student leader and gain career-building experience.  
    • Serves as a role-model for fellow Indiana University students.  
    • Works with and learn from a variety of campus and community partners.  
    • Becomes a  part of creating a #CultureofCare at Indiana University.  
  • Facilitates 2-5 presentations per week from early September 2024 to April 2025.
  • Facilitates or attend other programs as assigned.
  • Attends weekly team meetings on Wednesdays at 7p.m.  
  • Assists in the development and execution of sexual violence prevention programs.
  • Attends individual check-in meetings with the supervisor, as requested. 
  • Responds within 48 hours to emails sent by the supervisor.  
  • Communicates early and often with the supervisor regarding questions and/or concerns.  
  • Works to find a peer educator replacement for conflicts with your assigned presentations/programs.  
  • Regularly and accurately completes your timesheet by clocking in and out when you begin and end work. 

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University while maintaining a minimum of at least a 2.5 GPA

SKILLS

Required

  • Interest and enthusiasm for working in sexual violence prevention education
  • Ability to conduct yourself in a professional and ethical manner
  • Ability to demonstrate respect to program participants and co-facilitators
  • Ability to use trauma-informed and inclusive language in all presentations, meetings, and events
  • Ability to adhere to dress code for presentations
  • Ability to commit to honoring the peer educator job description requirements

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. 

The position requires the successful completion of 35 hours of initial training in the fall semester and 8 hours of follow-up training in the spring semester.

This position reports to the Prevention Coordinator for the Office for Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy.

This is an in-person position. 

$14.00 per hour

Approximately 5-12 hours per week.  

Tentative Fall 2024 Training Schedule

Thursday, August 17th - 9 AM to 7 PM 
Friday, August 18th - 9 AM to 7 PM 
Saturday, August 19th - 9 AM to 7 PM
Sunday, August 20th - 9 AM to 12 PM

Weekly Presentation Schedule:

Sundays: 2 PM to 4 PM, 4 to 6 PM, (there are 2 separate rounds of sessions being facilitated during these times) 6 PM to 8 PM, 8 PM to 10 PM  
Mondays: (there are 2 separate rounds of sessions being facilitated during these times) 6 PM to 8 PM, 8 PM to 10 PM.  
Tuesdays: (there are 2 separate rounds of sessions being facilitated during these times) 6 PM to 8 PM, 8 PM to 10 PM
