Human Research Technologist 2

Mood Disorders Research

Penn State College of Medicine

Full-time research assistant position in the Mood Disorders Lab at PSCOM under Dr. Dahlia Mukherjee in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. This lab focuses primarily on the study of depressive disorders on both a biological and behavioral level. Although on-the-job training will be provided, 1-2 years’ experience working in research labs is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Data collection through participant visits across multiple studies
  • Observational data scoring, coding and data management
  • Biological specimen collection, storage, and distribution to other labs for processing
  • Neuroimaging data collection through EEG and fMRI methods
  • IRB tasks including submitting modifications, amendments, continuations and renewals
  • Participant recruitment and scheduling
  • Purchasing and organizing materials for study appointments
  • Monitor safety and confidentiality of project and subjects/participants
  • Ensure data is scored and entered correctly and reconciled per PI guidelines

Skills Required:

  • Highly personable
  • Detail oriented
  • Can handle multiple projects at a time
  • Great communication skills
  • Word/Excel proficiency

Technical Skills Involved:

  • Phlebotomy (optional)
  • Clinical Psychiatric Interviewing
  • EEG administration
  • Administration of behavioral computer tasks
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Blood processing

Own transportation required to travel to affiliated research sites in Hershey, PA.

This is a fixed-term position, funded for one year from date of hire, with excellent possibility of refunding.

 This position typically requires an Associate’s degree or higher (Bachelor’s degree in psychology/neuroscience or any related field preferred) plus 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge in SPSS, Matlab, R, and REDCap are preferred. Experience with coding, EEG and fMRI imaging analysis is a bonus but not required.

 

The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position: 

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check 

  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History- 

  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
