JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Amatya Lab, in the Department of Pediatrics, at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA, is seeking a qualified, motivated Summer Intern to join a talented research team focusing on developmental mechanistic studies to identify pathogenesis and genetic susceptibilities of lung disease in premature infants. We are searching for a highly organized and self-motivated individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Execution of record keeping, organization and maintenance of databases, and related tasks
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and certifications.
  • Maintain laboratory compliance.
  • Maintain inventory of study samples, raw materials, buffers, and reagents

Requirements:

  • Must be a current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline).
  • Basic Laboratory Skills: While no prior research experience is required, a strong interest in science and a willingness to learn and apply basic lab techniques are essential.
  • Initiative: The ability to take the initiative, ask questions, and actively engage in research activities is highly valued.
  • Time Commitment: Interns are expected to commit to a full-time schedule during a six-week course in the summer of 2024. The exact start and end dates can be discussed during the interview process.

The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position:  

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check  
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
