The Iovine and Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation at the University of Southern California invites applications for one or more part-time, non-tenure-track faculty positions in the school’s core areas: the arts; design; technology; engineering; media; entertainment; business and entrepreneurship; and communication. Other areas of expertise may be considered as needed. This is an ongoing posting for a pool and we will be hiring intermittently for openings as early as Fall 2023, or later.

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional, creative or researcher with higher education teaching experience and holds an MA, MS, MFA, MBA, PhD or equivalent in the school’s core areas: the arts; design; technology; engineering; media; entertainment; business and entrepreneurship; and communication. The position includes teaching and co-teaching courses to a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students, in residence and online, with backgrounds in the arts and design, technology and/or business entrepreneurship. 

Candidates should have a background (or specific interest) in one or more of the following areas:

Art and Design

  • Graphic Design, including Motion Graphics

  • Product Design, including Package Design

  • Product Development

  • Branding

  • User Interface Design

  • Experience Design, including Live Experiences

  • Design Consulting

  • Design Strategy

  • Multi-Disciplinary Design Project Teams

Technology

  • HTML, CSS and Client-side scripting and frameworks

  • Server-side scripting and frameworks

  • Knowledge of Database Architecture, SQL and other data structures

  • Data Science and Analytics

  • Mobile Development

  • IoT and other device programming

  • AI and Machine Learning

  • Extended Reality Technologies

Business and Entrepreneurship

  • Product Development

  • Technology Commercialization

  • Strategy Theory

  • Managerial and Financial Accounting

  • Strategic Planning

  • Problem Solving Theories and Methodologies


Candidates should have a minimum of one year of full-time teaching experience (or the equivalent in part-time positions) at the college/university level (graduate and undergraduate preferred), and demonstrated success in mentoring and advising students in and beyond their education or equivalent professional experience.  Preference will be given to candidates who can also show evidence of teaching innovations, extensive and effective use of technology in the classroom, and an ability to work well in non-traditional educational settings.

Preference will be given to candidates whose background includes experience that crosses the areas of design, product development, UI/UX, or technology commercialization.  Candidates should also have a strong understanding of where and how technology intersects with 2D and 3D design and business (including non-profit ventures), as well as facility and experience with creative problem solving theories and methodologies.

Ideal candidates will also have experience in curricular development.

In addition to having a broad awareness of and active presence in design, technology and/or business-related fields and endeavors (or other areas as applicable), the candidate must be a team player who will mentor students and peers and provide vision for this groundbreaking cross-disciplinary program, within the strategic goals of this top-tier research university. The candidate should also be interested in forging relationships and building opportunities with other schools and departments at USC, including but not limited to the schools of Art and Design, Business, Engineering, and Communication and Journalism.

Standard, part-time instructional faculty pay is $2,232 per unit.
