JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Emotion Development Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University , headed by Dr. Kristin Buss, seeks a part-time Research Assistant (http://emotiondev.la.psu.edu/ ). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on NIMH and PSU-funded studies investigating the developmental trajectories of social anxiety development in adolescents with focus on emotion regulation and physiological mechanisms. This work will take advantage of the University’s broad resources, including the Child Study Center (http://csc.psych.psu.edu/ ).


Job Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining participant video and questionnaire databases
  • Contacting and scheduling families
  • Coordinating mailings and data collection
  • Supervising other undergraduate students working on project
  • Aiding in human subject protocols, consent forms, and annual IRB approval
  • General lab management duties and may also involve overseeing a large and dynamic team of undergraduate students


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field preferred.
  • Research and/or professional experience with children is required.
  • The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn and develop additional computer skills related to data management and preparation of data for analysis.
  • Experience processing data using relevant software programs (e.g., SPSS, R, Qualtrics, BVA, Mindware) is also highly desired. 
  • In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
  • Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.
