Scope of Job | The University College at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is seeking applications for a Part-Time (adjunct) Lecturer to teach UNIV 1001 – Living and Working by Design. This first-year course, which is a part of UTRGV’s Student Success and Retention Initiatives, explores human-centered design strategies to help students reimagine their possible futures by reflecting on and planning their lives, degrees, and careers. Through readings, experiential learning, collaborative problem-solving, and the prototyping of pathways, students will learn how to combine their goals for life, degree, and career in innovative and insightful ways. The position is a part-time appointment beginning in the Fall of 2021. The selected applicant(s) may teach multiple sections of UNIV 1001. S/He could teach on the Edinburg and/or Brownsville campuses. The applicant(s) will also participate in mandatory professional development, maintain appropriate office hours, and fulfill other responsibilities required of a part-time lecturer at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the mission of the University College and are committed to UTRGV’s vision, mission, values and core priorities as outlined in the institution’s strategic plan (http://www.utrgv.edu/strategic-plan/). |
Minimum Qualifications | Applicant must have a Master’s degree from an accredited university |
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications | Applicant must have a Master’s degree from an accredited university. Experience helping students make the transition to college and explore potential career pathways. Knowledge of best practices for working with first year students is also required. |
Preferred Qualification | Experience teaching first year college students; knowledge of and/or experience with design thinking. |
