Description

The University of Chicago’s Department of Family Medicine and the Institute for Population and Precision Health is accepting applications for a part-time Lecturer for the Autumn Quarter 2022.

The appointee will develop and teach as primary instructor a clinical epidemiology course as part of the University’s new Master of Science in Precision Health (MsPH) program, launching in fall 2022.  The course will cover basic methodological and applied topics, including (but not limited to) measurement, design, bias, analysis and interpretation of data in clinical, diagnostic and prevention research, especially within the context of precision medicine and population health.  The course will be a required course for students in the MsPH program, but may also be open to other students with permission of the Lecturer. This is a new course and the Lecturer will be required to develop (with assistance from a teaching assistant) all course materials, including the design and operation of a Canvas Learning Management System course site.

For this inaugural year, this class will be held in autumn quarter which runs from September 27 - December 10, 2022. Courses are held for nine weeks, with the tenth week for a final project or exam. It is preferable that the course meets in the late afternoon either 1 or 2 days a week for a total of 3 hours, although the exact day(s)/time(s) will be determined in consultation with the Lecturer. The class is offered in-person on the University’s main campus in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL.

The position is part-time and not benefits eligible.  The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University. 

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have: 1) a PhD in Epidemiology or a related field, or an MD with advanced training in epidemiology, and 2) experience as the primary instructor for a graduate level epidemiology course.
