In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and assessment, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute "office hour" at NYU Madrid per week, during which time they will be available to meet with students.

Pending final budgetary approval.

Course Description

“Topics in Peninsular Spanish Literature and Culture: Art Before/Beyond/Without Museums” will look at Spanish art, past and present, from the point of view not of the conventional finished products --works of art in a museum, eg-- but rather in the context of the processes by which art is commissioned, conceived, created, collected, exhibited, marketed, bought and sold.  The course will also have a component of "making"--students will be exposed to hands-on experiences of a number of artistic practices, such as modeling clay, and making plaster molds-- and will also include visits to artisans' workshops, artists’ studios, auction houses, flea markets, etc. The course will be taught in English.
